![]() Premise and basic information;
To begin with everyone lives in the bathhouse. There are 4 floors, each of them has several rooms for employees to sleep and hang out. There are about ten to fifteen people to a room, characters sleep on traditional futons. ↪ What about my character’s possessions? Everything but the clothes off their backs are taken from them upon arrival. After they sign their contract Yubaba replaces their clothes with uniforms, so those are taken as well. Normally Yubaba just gets rid of personal items, but Haku has convinced her that she can make a profit out of this. Your characters can buy back their items each payday. ↪ So what’s an average work week look like? The bathhouse is only open at night, with the weekends being the busiest times. The work load varies depending on how busy it is. You can expect to be up pretty much all night Fridays and Saturdays. Days off are Mondays with a half shift on Tuesday. ↪ Do they have to work in the bathhouse or can they made their own business? Yubaba welcomes anything that can make her more money. If your character has a good idea they just need to throw the idea at her and if she likes it she will fund the character for a place in town. She expects to be paid back though, with interest. It should also be noted that Yubaba is obligated to give anyone who asks a job. ↪ Can we leave the bathhouse area? Not imminently, once the character raised enough money they can buy a train ticket to leave the bathhouse. These tickets are expensive and there are only a few available at a time. The character can also win tickets from events. ↪ Can’t we just walk out? No. The bathhouse is surrounded by a giant ocean, the only way through it is the train. There is a magical barrier that keeps the dwellers of the bathhouse from escaping. This barrier only allows the train and it’s occupies to go through it. Anyone who wishes to walk out will be stopped, but the barrier does not keep people from walking in. ↪ So how does the train work? Each train stop is a simple concrete platform with a small hut and set of stairs. The character just passes through this and they appear in another setting of a Ghibli film. The train can only be found by a character wearing their comm-link (a ring), and tickets are sold in each platform at the train station hut. The train only goes one way so they will need to ride the train in a complete circle if they wanted to go back to the world they were just in. ↪ How much is a ticket? A ticket costs 5 gold and will take you to any (open) stop you want. Tickets require Mod Approval. ↪ So wait...where do we get the money then? Well, your character is working. Yubaba might be cheap but she does pay. Each character is paid weekly. A board and food tax is taken from it. Players are responsible for keeping track of how much their character's making. An example of what we would like to see in your journals is here ↪ What are the jobs and what do they pay? Please visit the job's list for more detailed information. As a note, more jobs will become available when the plot progresses. ↪ So what means of money does my character use here? 1 Gold = 5 Silver ↪ What happens if my character damages the surround town or the bathhouse? The bathhouse regenerates any damage, as does the town. That doesn’t mean that you get away with it. Punishment for damage can be anything from deduction in pay to being turned into an animal or a lump of coal. ↪ What if I disobey Yubaba? This woman has quite the temper. She will do anything to get her point across. If that means destroying your prized possession, turning someone you care for into a pig and eating them, or just beating the crap out of you then it will be done. ↪ What happens if my character dies? If a character dies in this world then they become a shadow person. As a shadow person they can't speak, only gesture. Their facial features are masked by darkness, and they can not leave the area in which they died in. They remain this way for one week, while their comm-link (ring) heals their body. On the seven day they are lured back to their bodies and from there their souls are reconnected to the physical world.↪ Help! My character can't speak Japanese! Well they do now! The communication system is an enchanted ring. When worn this ring will grants the wearer the ability to speak whatever language is needed, fluently. More information on the ring can be read below. ↪ Is NC-17 content permitted? When it comes to sex and violence, yes it is permitted. Some of these worlds are violent in nature, and violence is needed to survive. We just ask that anything with adult content is locked and warned. This game is also het, yaoi, and yuri friendly. There are limits though — if the focus of the game turn to shipping and smut the mods will have to intervene. ↪ What’s the activity requirement? Two proofs of either a 10 comment thread, a log, or a journal entry. ![]() |
![]() The world and gameplay;
This is the World of Gods and supernatural beings. For one reason or another your character was taken to this world by the gods and was dropped off here. Maybe you were just crossing a bridge, or simply going into a room, either way it was a place that they were not suppose to go and as a result they were spirited away to this world. ↪ Do we have to see every Ghibli film to understand what is going on? Nope! You will better understand this game though if you at least watch Spirited Away, but it’s not a requirement. There is a helpful link for Ghibli film resources available in the navigation post. ↪ What characters are applicable? Any book, video game, movie, (most) anime, comic, or published webcomics. Real people/celebrities can't be applied for. Exceptions are people portrayed fictional, such as historical films/movies, games, stories. Media only available in Japanese/with Japanese reference links is okay if and only if there's little to no expectation it will ever be released in English or there is a reasonably accurate translation available (subtitles, scanalations, etc). If you wish to play a god, as of right now only lesser gods (River, Forest, etc) are allowed. If you aren't sure about your character just ask and a mod will assist you. ↪ What about duplicate characters? Duplicates of the same character is allowed only if they’re from another canon sources. Ex. KH: Leon and FF: Squall. In the case of Final Fantasy and Dissidia the answer is no. What about AUs? Characters are allowed to have memories from previous games, and with that the cr that came with it. There will be a separate history required for the AU memories. These memories can also be one of the ten your character forgets.↪ Can we app original characters (OCs)? No, not at this time. ↪ My character is dead/dying in the canon, are they still applicable? Sure! This world is powered by the gods and magic, so it is easy for them to bring someone from the after life into this world. ↪ In the movie, humans were looked down upon. Is this mirrored here in the game? Yes it is. This is the spirit world, a place where humans were suppose to never go. For reasons unknown the gods have placed you here and you have to deal with the consequences. The spirits don’t take kindly to normal human beings. If you have supernatural powers they will see you as unique and will not treat you as harshly. ↪ So what kind of discrimination should I expect? Depends on the people you encounter. Some are okay with humans, but others see them as inferior. If you are a normal human then you can expect to have a harder time getting the things you need, and don’t be shocked if you get stiffed out of a tip.As far as violence is concerned, it's not an impossibility. Be careful. ↪ How do we communicate? Upon arrival Yubaba gives each character a special ring. Once this ring is wore it takes a bit of blood from the wearer, identifying it as theirs. With a small sting, only you can handle your ring so don't go losing it. The ring’s gem will light up when ever there is new activity on the network, all the wearer has to do is push the gemstone and the network appears in front of them as a sort of illusion. The ring is capable of voice and video post. If text is needed then a keyboard appears, also as an illusion. Yubaba also uses this ring as a tracking device. ↪ Does my character get to keep their powers? They do! All characters will keep their powers. Supernatural powers are a good thing in this world, so the more powerful your character is the more respect they will get. Normal humans will actually gain powers after staying in the bathhouse for a extend period of time. ↪ Awesome! What kind of powers do normal humans get? These powers will be basic magic skills. The longer they stay in the bathhouse the easier these powers will come to them. Character’s powers are up to the mun, we ask that they are limited to 2 elemental powers. On terms of how powerful they become, they aren’t very strong. On a scale of 1-10 (lowest to highest) it would probably be a 3. These powers are mainly here for them to be able to defend themselves if needed, but don’t expect to do any real damage. ↪ What about characters that have god-like powers? Yubaba wants to make sure she is most powerful being that lives in the bathhouse. The ring will restrict some powers. This means no world destroying powers. Other powers that will be resisted are as follows:-Wish granting: Disabled. ↪ So wait. My name is gone?! Yep! Yubaba’s magic centers around the fact that she can control someone when she takes their name. As soon as your character arrives in this place they will be taken to Yubaba, and they will be given a new name. What it becomes is up to the mun. If you need some ideas on how to come up with a new name, here are some suggestions: ↪ What if my character goes by an alias? The character will write down whatever name they identify themselves as. This could be their alias or their real name, it’s whatever holds more power over that character. If you don’t know which it would be then you can write both. ↪ Can my character write a fake name? No. Yubaba has a spell on the quill that the characters writes with, this forces them to write down their real name. Besides do you really want to anger the person who can turn you into a cow? ↪ What’s all this about memories? So my character loses them? Not all of them. With Yubaba’s spell comes some side effects, memory loss is one of them. After the first night the character will lose up to 10 memories. They can gain these back with events and if they buy back their possessions that remind them of something, like when Sen received her card and remembered her real name. ↪ What's going to happen when my character gets there? All contract signing and arrivals are handwaved. They can still ask questions about it, but the deed is done and they have a job to do. ↪ What memories then? Any event in their life can be taken away. The more significant the better! That doesn’t mean that the little things can be forgotten as well. They can forget their phone number, their skills, the fact that they are adopted- anything! We just ask that you stray away from things like ‘Souji forgot he ate a burger last week’. ![]() ![]() |

You can try if you really want to but, in the end, it will come down to how we see it if the character speaks for itself outside the headcanon aspects.

no subject
Date: 2012-02-03 01:09 pm (UTC)We would really like to see a personality separated from the history section in order to see your point of view of their character. You can write your personality eluding to examples found in the history but the chronological set and the personality section must be seperate.

Date: 2012-02-03 09:19 am (UTC)I see we're allowed to apply for two characters per cycle, but can only reserve one? I've actually got both apps written up already, so... D: What if someone slips in and puts in a reserve even though I'm all ready to post it?
Secondly, What is the official day of apps opening? I know they open a week after reserves open. |D I just don't know when that happened.
Thanks!

no subject
Date: 2012-02-03 06:35 pm (UTC)As for animal characters, yes they are allowed. In the case of Moro, she can either retain her animal form and work outside as a guardian of the bathhouse, or assume a humanoid form and work inside.

Date: 2012-02-04 01:44 am (UTC)That was totally up there yesterday so where did it go.If you want to canon update you simply need to ask for mod approval. Your character will return home. The memories of the bathhouse will be like a distant dream, and they will go on with their normal lives.
After the events have passed your character will brought back to the bathhouse. It doesn't matter how much time has passed in their world, but when they return it seems that only a week has pass at the bathhouse. They will forget their name once more as well as their ten memories, and return to work.

This is a constant thing though, if they try to actively tell someone, or say the name out loud or write the name they will just keep blanking.

Date: 2012-02-04 08:13 pm (UTC)I've read where it says says nonhumanoid characters will be allowed, but how much will big characters be shrunk down for the setting's sake? The character I'm interested in apping is an 18-ton dragon, which is probably a bit awkward for this kind of setting. Would his form change from big to travel sized if he went into the bathhouse, or would it remain constant?
In addition, said dragon speaks multiple languages and picks up new ones quickly, like a parrot would; if he becomes ICly aware of the ring's auto-translation capability, could he deliberately speak a different language to circumvent it? In the books he uses Xhosa specifically for the purpose of avoiding eavesdropping, for instance.
no subject
Date: 2012-02-06 12:58 am (UTC)As for the multiple languages that he can speak, he can be aware of the ring's auto-translation (as some others characters will probably take note of it also) and he is welcome to attempt to try and trick it, but the ring will do it's job and translate accordingly.

Date: 2012-02-05 04:26 pm (UTC)Ok so the in the point in time I'm taking Menolly from her Feet have been run bloody and raw. Also her hand was cut deeply in the palm and her mother intentionally let it heal wrong. She has some use of it but... How would this effect things?
The second thing is I'm thinking that I would like Menolly to bring one of her Nine Fire Lizards with her. Beauty her favorite, she's a very small dragon like creature, she's small enough that she can sit on her shoulder and hide in her hair. She's very much just a pet, intelligent but only as much as a smart dog.
Beauty does have powers though. She can 'go between' or teleport. She can also send feelings and imaginary to Menolly. I believe Yubaba would find this a useful asset. Beauty is a very good messenger and she can sing with Menolly. Good for business XD
The reason I ask however is actually important. Menolly is bounded mentally to her fire lizards. Losing all nine at once might cripple her. Losing the other eight would be very hard but having Beauty with her would ease it mostly because her bond with Beauty is the strongest...
Would this be allowed?
no subject
Date: 2012-02-06 01:11 am (UTC)As for her pets/animal familiars, upon signing the contract, they will be sent to the barn near where the pigs are kept, and will be attended to by the farmers. Characters will be allowed to visit their pets/familiars when they have free time. If they wish, they can try to bring them into the bathhouse, but if Yubaba finds them, there will be repercussions rather than them being sent to the farm immediately.
If Beauty is in the bathhouse, then she can only teleport within the bathhouse or the town around it. If Yubaba finds it useful then Beauty will be put to work as well.

Date: 2012-02-06 07:28 am (UTC)1. Character possessions are taken away upon arrival. But what about possessions they need to survive? Specifically, for the Madoka cast, their Soul Gem rings. Since the Soul Gems are actually their souls, if they're taken out of a certain radius of their bodies, the bodies become lifeless husks. Will they be permitted to keep their rings to prevent this?
2. Okay here's the really spoilery stuff! Over time, whether they've been fighting or not, the Soul Gems slowly become corrupted. When they go completely black, a puella magi turns into a witch. The only way to prevent this is to purify the gem with a Grief Seed, the item dropped by witches when they're defeated. So my question is: will they be provided with Grief Seeds? Or can the gem corruption be magically frozen somehow?
no subject
Date: 2012-02-07 04:07 am (UTC)2. The Madoka characters can come in with whatever amount of Grief Seeds they had on them, but when they run out, duplicate ones will be created by Yubaba and can be purchased at a small price. The duplicate grief seeds won't be as effective as the real ones, as they would be made from the negative energy/spirits from around the bathhouse.

Date: 2012-02-09 08:04 am (UTC)What if a character has had contact with and/or received his powers from a god, especially a rather high ranking one? In this case, Adachi (
as well as two other losers) received his powers directly from Izanami, one of the two creator gods of Japanese myth. And I mean like. She actually touched him physically at some point and did that. One of the powers he also ended up with is his Persona (a physical personification of his own mind/true self/whaaaaaaaaateverrr) which manifests itself as... a corrupt version of the OTHER creator god, Izanami's husband Izanagi. And yet on top of all this, near the very end of the game (this'll only matter if I take him from a canonpoint after that which I'm not sure I will yet) he gets possessed by yet ANOTHER god: Ameno-sagiri. Not a well known god but apparently part of that whole divine pantheon idek.Basically there are gods all up in his shit.
So I was wondering if spirits/gods can sense this sort of thing? Would they be able to tell his powers came from Izanami herself, that he actually had physical contact with her? If I take him from after his possession would be able to tell that? How would this change their opinion of him? Would they even care? Because without that power from Izanami he'd be a completely normal and useless human (and of course he has ZERO idea any of these gods were involved at all to boot).
no subject
Date: 2012-02-11 02:45 am (UTC)As for Izanagi and Magatsu Izanagi in general, Souji/protag will be allowed to come in with one of his other Personae or be given a fabricated Persona (which will still share the name Izanagi if wished) created by Yubaba's magic. Adachi will be given a fabricated Persona of this nature.
In regards to the questions about his contact with Izanami and other gods/spirits reaction towards it, he will be allowed to keep his memories of his past contact with them and it will also be something they note. The spirits will see Adachi as an interesting/special human, but still human.

Date: 2012-02-11 02:27 am (UTC)If the memory is extremely powerful then it is triggered easier, and with each trigger they start to get hints at what the memory is. However, they may never really get it back until that memory is given to them.

Date: 2012-02-09 06:24 pm (UTC)First, I'm curious to know if characters will maintain the ability to summon certain items that may or may not be taken from them. In the Kuroshitsuji canon, reapers are are able to sort of call and rid of their deathscythe at will; specifically, I'd like to know if Yubaba would be able to restrict them from accessing their scythes!
Also, would there be a chance of suggesting entertainment positions for the bath house?

Date: 2012-02-11 04:20 am (UTC)Also I may be reading this wrong, but do characters loose "at least" ten memories or "up to" ten memories?
no subject
Date: 2012-02-12 08:52 pm (UTC)As for the amount of memories, it is "at least" ten memories.
no subject
Date: 2012-02-11 04:32 pm (UTC)Also, you already answered what happens when canonmates try to tell each other what their real names are. Does this apply when they're talking to others about said canonmates? So everyone's memories are being affected in regards to names? Also, does the same process apply to memories that are lost that concern canonmates? Like, say I have Fay forget that Mokona's eyes open when she senses a feather. If Mokona arrives and tries to tell him, will she forget as well?
no subject
Date: 2012-02-12 07:42 pm (UTC)As for canon mates talking about canon mates, it's all the same. If your character tries to say another canon mate's real name then they forget it. The true name can not be communicated in anyway until that person get their real name back.
As far as memories, with the example of Mokona if she remembers what they are and Fay does not, then she can try to explain to him but it's all really if he will believe her or not. He won't completely understand everything though until that memory is given back to him.
